Humans with different masks Returning to the hostel after a sleepy and exhausting lesson, I happily and eagerly thought back on the session, having been made aware of ‘humans wearing different masks’ in a variety of contexts by one of the speakers. What sort of mask is that? He was preaching to us about how people have different attitudes about each personality in our lives, so there’s no need to wonder. As human beings, we do, in fact, present multiple faces to different individuals depending on who we are interacting with—spouses, kids, coworkers, superiors, etc. Subconsciously, we have been donning that frayed mask for a very long time! When we encounter affluent or high-status bureaucrats, some of us constantly bow or show respect, but when we encounter people who are badly dressed or from lower social classes, we forget to share our bright smiles.
