Reflection on Mindfulness Retreat

Reflection on Mindfulness Retreat The initial mindfulness retreat commenced with an introduction to the fundamental principles of mindfulness practice in counselling, which would greatly assist counsellors in aiding various clients. The individual responsible for pioneering this mindfulness practice was Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a Tibetan native who was raised in Western countries following the Chinese invasion. Another crucial aspect of mindfulness involves perceiving our physical body, mental state, and the situations we encounter with clarity, enabling us to respond and cultivate clear perception. We were briefly acquainted with the seven mindfulness postures, including maintaining an upright posture, placing our hands on our laps, lowering our gaze, keeping our eyes partially open, maintaining a two-foot distance, etc.  After emphasizing the significance of mindfulness in counselling, we commenced a five-minute mindfulness practice. As I initiated the practice, I e...

Kind Stranger  Here is an incident that I just met over Tiktok.  We crossed paths on TikTok as mere strangers at first. Little did we know that our connection would blossom into a beautiful friendship. Your unwavering support and guidance have surpassed that of even my childhood friends and relatives. In times of hardship, you have not only offered a helping hand but also shared invaluable words of wisdom and profound insights, empowering me on my journey towards success. Your kindness knows no bounds. Whether it be a stranger or someone familiar, you are always ready to lend a helping hand.  Your innate generosity and warmheartedness shine through, exemplifying the true essence of being independent. Despite the challenges you face daily, you always prioritise your son's education, ensuring a bright future for him. Your dedication to both your packed schedule and your faith is commendable. Your unwavering devotion to God and daily prayers reflect your belief in a fu...

Basic Goodness in Animal

Image
Basic Goodness in Animal  Let me share the incident, The nights were eerie, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong with my playmate, Boktoo. I wondered, ‘What has happened to my dear Boktoo? Boktoo, a puppy of my age, was born in the lush grassy neighbourhood a year ago. Initially, he appeared frail, and I doubted his chances of survival. However, I soon realized my mistake, as he blossomed into an adorable puppy that everyone adored and wanted to adopt as a pet. Surprisingly, he grew older and more mature than me in just a month’s time. Besides my friends, he was my only playmate and proved to be helpful in our maize field. Boktoo had a keen sense of smell and could detect even the faintest scent, as well as every tiny sound that would make him howl throughout the night and doze off under the warm afternoon sun. On that particular night, Boktoo failed to howl as he usually did. His silence compelled me to visit his dilapidated bamboo shelter, and I walked...

Words in Fallen Leaf

Image
Words in a fallen leaf Eyes swing to those that fly like birds. The wind wheeled it to the south. Leaf embosses like golden dots It has words in fallen leaves. Shabby leaves fall on earth. To the sudden call of nature When a leafy tree is dressed in gold Those woods grow old. Tighten its hand to stand among Yet the ground is free for old trees to fall. Everything fades with the passage of time. When blond autumn sings in joy Every golden-haired leaf does cry. It is words on a fallen leaf. The leaves rustle with the melodies of nature. To the unanimous blowing cyclone Drifting haphazardly in high like a fire fly So is it our life that we sing a song? When we find the right string to play, Those unsung songs * Compose based on contemplating  impermanence.

Magic in Greeting

Magic in Greeting   As the evening approached, I was assigned a room and kitchen in the hostel. Feeling a bit uneasy and lonely on my first day at college, I decided to step out of the room. To my surprise, I encountered a new friend who appeared younger than me. He greeted me with a lovely smile, which instantly warmed my heart. Despite being strangers, his friendly gesture made me feel welcomed as we explored the campus together. Throughout the passing days, I consistently attended my classes and found solace in the learning process. Each day brought forth a wonderful incident: a fellow student who never failed to greet me with a warm smile, regardless of where our paths crossed, whether it be in the kitchen, the restroom, or along the corridors. His cheerful greeting of "Kuzuzangpo!" was a constant source of joy and relief for me. Which other students never do.  This experience was unlike any I had encountered during my school days. I made it a point to reciprocate his g...

Cherish the present Moment

Cherish the present moment  Sometimes, it's a very pleasing and wonderful moment to observe the quiet of night with no rustling leaves or fluttering flags. Insects and dogs are lulled into deep slumber. For me, it is often a night when I get lost in sad thoughts and emotions, with tears draining as I ponder that this might be my last night alive. The counselling classes have taught me to cherish each present moment, thinking it could be my last. That is impermanence. Impermanence nags at every moment of our lives, though we are often unaware, imagining things to be permanent. The friend we quarrel with, the smile we exchange, the meal we eat—all this may be our last moment together, and we cannot get back the difficult times to make amends if impermanence takes one of us away. We must value the present moment.
